Using Rhythm Stethoscopes
Questions & Answers
Can I change the tubing length?

No. We offer a standard length: 29". The signal is transmitted electronically through the tubing, so length does not compromise sound quality. Cutting the tubing will cut the wires. Please don' do that!
How do I replace the Diaphragm?

The EmD is a patented Thinklabs diaphragm with special electronic coatings (free replacement available from Thinklabs until further notice). Simply unscrew the diaphragm ring, replace the Diaphragm, and screw on the Diaphragm Ring. See the User's Manual before performing the replacement. It is critically important that you not touch the inner surface of the diaphragm, and that you open the Probe only in a clean, dry atmosphere (such as air-conditioned office). Other than those precautions, the process is simple and quick.
How do I change the eartips?

The eartips can be removed by pulling carefully on the outer cushion. See the User's Manual. The eartips are made of soft silicone, and can be cleaned in alcohol, soap, and replaced if necessary. You must use custom Rhythm eartips (free replacements available until further notice).
I’m an experienced physician, and I know my stethoscope sound well. Is there a learning curve to change over to a high resolution signal?

If you're using your Rhythm, and you want to hear what a murmur or other sound might have sounded like with your old stethoscope, just click the On switch a second time, and your Rhythm will switch to an "acoustic" setting that will sound like an outstanding acoustic stethoscope. Click the On switch again, and you're back in high resolution mode where you can adjust the Zoom level to your own preference. So you can toggle back and forth. It's like having two high quality stethoscopes.
How do I switch between Bell and Diaphragm Modes?

Simply click the Bell/Diaphragm key to toggle between the two modes. You can switch over while listening without moving the Probe.
Can I clean a Rhythm stethoscope the same way as a conventional stethoscope?

Yes. Use alcohol wipes or damp cloth. Do not immerse the unit in water.
What batteries are required, and how long will they last?

Two AAA alkaline batteries, just like a pager. Depending on use, you can expect about 3 to 4 months of use. A low battery warning light will warn you days ahead of time that you should change batteries.
Do I use the Rhythm Stethoscopes the same way I use my conventional stethoscope?

Yes. Rhythm stethoscopes are about the same size and weight as a conventional stethoscope, and can be used in exactly the same way. There are controls to adjust volume and select between Bell and Diaphragm modes. It takes a typical user about one minute to become familiar with the controls.
